Flash Gear FAQs
Q What grades/thickness of leather is best for motorbike jackets or suit?
A. According to tests and search of Flash Gear, bovine leather will tend to last longer than sheep or goat leather of the same thickness. Bovine leather that is around 1.2 - 1.4 mm can give between 6 and 12 seconds of abrasion fighting which is sufficient. On the other hand it all depends on how the leather has been treated. Two samples of equal thickness bovine suede lasted 0.8 and 8.0 seconds correspondingly. The only way to be sure is to test the actual sample that is why the testing systems are so useful for riders.
Q Why Motorbike gloves that have webbing between the fingers, are considered good design?
A. The fingers can obtain the full weight of your declining twisting body when you smack the road. The little finger is most at danger because it is on the outside. Webbing tends to hold it in to curve against your palm rather than being twisted backwards.
Q. How do I wash GORE-TEX® and D-Dry fabric garments?
It is very important that you do not let the dirt build up on fabric garments, which latter on may leak between the merge of the fabric and become very hard to get rid of. Flash Gear garments in fabric or with waterproof and breathable membranes such as D-Dry o GORE TEX should be washed in Luke warm water (max. 30°C) with softener free, unbiased soap, as an alternative of detergents containing solvents and abrasives, unless otherwise indicated on the garment's label.
At the time washing make sure you care for the outer fabric very delicately, excess rubbing may damage the fibers. It is rational to remove safety padding and protections, close zips and Velcro's (this avoids their rough effect on the fabric or the internal netting). The most important thing is remember to dry the garment in a dry place away from direct light and heat. Keep in mind to take great care with garments made of numerous different natures of materials. In this scenario, always and only go after the advice on the garment label: the indications must be firmly observed. All mechanical fabrics, including elasticized editions, must always be given a very fragile cleaning treatment. In particular high-tech fabrics with mechanical properties must be treated with softener free, neutral detergents. Softeners can considerably weaken the waterproof and oil-proof surface handling and even harm the resin coatings and multi-purpose membranes in Polyurethane and based on Polytetrafluoroethylene (i.e. PTFE – Teflon) usually applied on the backing of the fabric.
How should I wash my motorbike gloves?
Leather Motorbike gloves are best not washed, we should clean the dirt from building up over time and using the Flash Gear Cleaning & Protection Kit to keep them soft and clean. Fabric gloves, in GORE-TEX and in D-Dry, Cordura or any other textile however if a more in-depth cleaning is needed, Flash Gear recommends to wash them delicately in Luke warm water (max. 40°C) and non-abrasive, sweetener free neutral soap. Then dry those in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat, making sure you hang them by their cuffs, with the fingertips pointing downwards. All said, only unless otherwise indicate on the garment label.
Q. How can I clean a vintage garment?
Foremost it is essential that you follow the instruction of intended garment label. The Vintage products have been made with highly selected Italian and Pakistan leather. These articles are characterized by a pull-up upshot finish based on oils and waxes, particularly created to give the garment a worn exterior, but also an antagonistic look that improves with age: this oddity gives the characteristic Vintage effect, perfect for the 'On the Road' style concept for this garment line.
It is best to keep away from dirt from building up over time. To remove dirt use the Flash Gear special cleaning and protection Kit provided for this product line (carefully follow the application method using a soft cloth and softly chafing the surface with flimsy circular movements, never concentrating overly on the mark) Dry away from direct light and heat.
Q. How can I clean oil and gnat marks on leather garments?
Oil and gnat marks must be removed or clean as soon as possible: the longer they remain the harder it is to remove them. To clean bug marks just wipe up them away with a soft wet cloth and neutral soap. It is best to swiftly remove any organic spots left by insects (e.g. gnats, mosquitoes etc.), since the fluids they include are quite aggressive on the leather. Any oil or grease should be wash immediately with a soft damp cloth, clean with gentle circular engagements, avoiding to unduly roughness the soiled area.
